With Biden winning, the dogs will return to the White House
Joe Biden's election victory means the White House will have a first pet again, or in this case two first pets.
The Biden family includes two German Shepherds: Major, a young rescue dog, and Champ, who lived with them at One Observatory Circle in Washington during the Barack Obama administration, when Biden was Vice President.
"Of all of us, Champ will find it hardest to leave this place," Jill Biden told the Washington Post as she prepared to leave the 2017 Vice President's residence. "Champ has a family here. 24 hours a day. Daytime with all the staff and security guards with dog biscuits on hand.
Champ has been in the Biden family since late 2008 when Biden bought him from a breeder in Pennsylvania as a three month old puppy. According to reports, Biden promised his granddaughters to name the family's new pet.
Jill Biden had promised Joe that after the 2008 elections they would have a dog, and according to Politico,
The Bidens adopted Major, a German Shepherd, from the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) in November 2018 after raising him for about eight months.
In February, the New Hampshire union leader asked Democratic candidates why their pets were important to them.
“You love unconditionally and enjoy every moment with you. When I'm with the Champ and Major, I can have a “now” moment with them. I like to just throw a ball or walk. ""
Biden also suspected that the pair of pups would be happy in the White House.
Donald Trump broke tradition by becoming the first president since 1897 to not have a pet during his tenure. He explained why at a rally in Texas in February 2019.
"I wouldn't mind, honestly, but I don't have time," said Trump.
Now we will probably never have an answer to that question.
